Evaluation 2 - The images How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The pictures above are a comparison of my magazine against a well known magazine named 'VIBE'.
I think that VIBE and THE INFLUENCE share similar social groups which is why i am comparing these two images.

Posture:
Posture can say a lot when it comes to magazines. The posture can vary depending on what sort of genre the magazine is based on, for example my hip hop theme shows a relaxed and slightly careless stance. These two magazines have models with relaxed postures but yet a serious look. Having a straight/angry look is incredibly popular on hip hop magazines as it reflects the mood and feeling of the genre which is heavily linked to anger and poverty. Having a careless posture helps link the models mood to the story and genre.

Clothing:
Clothing is a big statement in the hip hop industry. Rappers show their success through jewelry or expensive clothing. The two examples above show both models wearing designer clothing along with accessories such as chains, ear studs and glasses. VIBE and THE INFLUENCE share incredibly similar fashion senses. I think my magazine model has been dresses appropriately to make the link to hip hop.

Shot type/angle:
This is where the magazines look slightly different but yet share the same effect. VIBE have decided to have Biggie in the face of the reader whereas i have decided the medium low angle shot is better for my story. My shot steps back and takes in his surroundings whereas vibe have decided to flood their page with a close up as that is the only real focus. VIBE have Biggie staring straight at the reader. The story is about Biggie breaking his silence which is why they have pictured him as if he's speaking directly. My story is looking through the eyes of Zingwe which is why my shot is further back and taking in Zingwe looking out. The low angle shot also gives Zingwe a sense of power which is similar to VIBE who's image has Biggie and P Diddy looking down on you.

In terms of social groups i think my magazine represents them well. My magazine firstly targets hip hop heads of all ages but obviously not too young as hip hop music carries a strong sense of explicit language and situations. My readers will be people who have either come from similar backgrounds and can relate or male teenagers who have interests in it due to social media and popularity. My magazine will appeal to the social group because it contains articles and artists that they will be interested. I have used props, bold fonts/colors and emotion within to really relate to the social groups. They are very basic colors and is seen as slightly unusual as red is usually the most suitable color for hip hop.
